Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a crucial meeting with Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, exploring collaboration opportunities in India's burgeoning semiconductor ecosystem. The discussions centered on leveraging India's growth in this sector for expanding Micron's presence in the country. Goyal highlighted the vast opportunities during the meeting and shared insights on Twitter, emphasizing the potential for collaboration.
This follows a prior meeting in July between Mehrotra and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat, where Micron Technology expressed plans to strengthen India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. In June, the company had already announced a substantial investment of USD 825 million in a new chip assembly and testing plant in Gujarat, aligning with India's vision to become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing over the next decade.
Minister Goyal, currently on a four-day visit to the US, engaged in a roundtable discussion with notable academicians at Stanford University. He underscored the potential for collaboration with India's higher education institutions to foster knowledge exchange and research on global challenges.
Additionally, Goyal met with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, emphasizing India's young talent pool, dynamic business ecosystem, and growing economy as prime opportunities for investments. His interactions aimed to showcase India's potential as an attractive destination for business ventures.
US-India Business Council Board Chair Edward Knight commended the active interactions and engagements between the Indian and US governments in promoting entrepreneurship. Knight highlighted the positive outcomes of cooperation between the two nations, fostering high-growth companies, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
In reflecting on the broader context of India-US relations in the business realm, Knight shared insights from his recent visit to India, where he witnessed several US companies establishing centers of excellence and other impactful projects in the country. Notably, Google's announcement of an assembly facility was cited as an example of the growing collaboration between the two nations.
