Suchi Semicon's $100 Million OSAT Plant in Gujarat to Boost India's Semiconductor Industry

In a significant move towards bolstering India's semiconductor industry, Surat-based Suchi Semicon has announced a $100 million investment into Gujarat's first Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) plant. A Game-Changing Facility in Gujarat

Spread across 30,000 square feet in the Surat district, the upcoming OSAT facility is poised to produce up to 3 million chips daily at full capacity. Equipped with advanced Class 10,000 and 100,000 cleanroom environments, the plant will initially produce 200,000 chips per day, gradually scaling up its operations over the next three to five years.

Strategic Investment Under State Policy

Suchi Semicon's ambitious project has been approved under Gujarat's state semiconductor policy and is a part of the India Semiconductor Mission. This investment aligns with India's strategic goals of self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing and enhancing its position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Focus on OSAT and Future Prospects

Shetal Mehta, Co-founder of Suchi Semicon, emphasized the company's immediate focus on scaling the OSAT facility. While there is potential to venture into semiconductor design in the future, Mehta highlighted that their current priority is to establish a strong foundation in OSAT operations. He mentioned that while India’s design capabilities are robust, entering fabrication may take time as the ecosystem continues to develop.

Job Creation and Skill Development

The facility is expected to create up to 1,200 jobs, contributing significantly to the local economy. To ensure a skilled workforce, Suchi Semicon has collaborated with Gujarat Technological University and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat. The company has also brought in international professionals to train Indian workers, setting the stage for sustained growth and technological advancement.

Phased Development and Future Expansion

The project will be executed in five phases, with the initial phase focused on producing chips for legacy devices, widely used in consumer electronics. As the project progresses, Suchi Semicon plans to expand into power devices and advanced chips, positioning itself as a key player in the semiconductor industry.
